Information architecture is the categorisation and labelling of information for organisational purposes and is key to any application whether it be web-based or not. The routes and paths within a body of information should flow from start to end.
Information architecture is extremely important especially for users with little or no specific problem domain experience. It needs to convey to the user of a system the structure and functionality of that system as intuitively as possible. An often forgotten element of information architecture is the interest of the user, not only does information have to be organised in a hierarchical manner but it also needs to keep the attention of any potential user or reader.
An ideal Information architecture should create a positive user experience and allow the user to find information quickly and easily.
